Chris Beardshaw demonstrates the versatility and beauty of slate veneer in his Morgan Stanley Garden for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019. The inspiration behind the garden is the UK’s love of beautiful gardens while exploring Eco friendly ways to create Herbaceous rich spaces. Chris uses innovative materials such as slate veneer to create a natural environment minimising waste and increasing the longevity of products.
QLA Interiors supplied the slate veneer Chris uses to clad the modern relaxation pods which provide the opportunity for reflection. The video above shows the slate veneer before he applies it to the relaxation pod. It clearly demonstrates how the stone cladding captures the beauty of natural slate with the flexibility of a veneer.
Slate veneer is extremely environmentally friendly as it is quick to install and is more economical to extract and transport. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint required to mine and transport it resulting in stone veneer being good for the environment in many ways. The flexible properties of the stone veneer make it easy to install and create many different effects.
What Is Slate Veneer?
Slate veneer is an innovative new product which uses a very thin layer of slate backed with resin. This results in real stone cladding, which is flexible, light and extremely easy to install. The stone veneer is sourced from India where German innovation has made it possible for a thin layer of real stone to be extracted from stone block using resin.
Each batch of stone veneer is different due to the natural patterns in the stone. Therefore, it is important to order enough stone cladding to complete the job otherwise the patterns may not match. Slate veneer is suitable for external use with an appropriate sealant to protect it from different conditions.
A translucent version of slate veneer provides amazing design opportunities including; illuminated wall panels, bars, bathrooms and feature walls. The effect of the light shining through the translucent stone veneer creates a wonderful atmosphere in any space.
